Wondering how to clean your empty candle vessels?
While glass is a natural, and easily recyclable material, the unfortunate truth is that much of our glass ends up in landfills.
To combat this, we encourage REPURPOSING and UPCYCLING whenever possible.
It’s quick and easy, and generally takes less than 5 minutes.
Here are a few of our tested methods to clean out empty candle vessels:
One of the favorite things about our 100% Natural Soy Wax, is that is cleans away extremely easily with a little soap and water. No harsh chemical cleaners required.
FREEZER METHOD ( easiest )
Place your spent candle in the freezer for 1 hour.
When removed, the wax will be hard and brittle. Using a butter knife, gently crack the wax away and discard. ( Our waxes are 100% natural and biodegrade like vegetable oils ). Using a fork or pliers, remove the metal “Wick Tab” on the bottom.
Hand-wash clean with warm, soapy water.
Preheat your oven to the lowest temperature ( No higher than 170 F ). Place your candle vessel on a baking sheet, and heat in oven for 10-15 minutes.
Remove from oven and discard any excess wax. You may need to use fork or pliers to remove the metal “wick-tab” on the bottom. Hand-wash clean with warm, soapy water.
For this method, you are essentially creating a double boiler. Fill a medium pot halfway with water, Bring a gentle simmer. Once heated, place your candle in the water bath ( do not submerge ), and turn heat down, to low. Water should NOT be boiling. Discard excess wax and hand-wash clean with warm, soapy water.
- Hand-wash any vessel before placing in the dishwasher. ( If excess wax is left in vessel, it may spread over your dishes. )
- We do not recommend using repurposed candle vessels for food storage. The lids often retain a portion of the candle’s scent, and may make your food smell... perfumed.
